French 75 – Friday’s Cocktail

So, tonight’s cocktail is a “French 75″. I initially found this one about 10 years ago. A friend (Claudia Witte) and I decided we should meet and make cocktails at my place. I never had hard liquor so we both went out to buy several bottles of random alcohol and then we used a little Cocktail software to see what drinks we can make with this stuff.

I only remember the French 75 – even though I was under the impression it was 65 or 69.  Anyway, it was the first time I really made cocktails/long drinks and boy did I underestimate the potency of that and had a few of those. We had to go and get cigarettes so we went to Cafe Kram, the corner bar where we met a couple of people we knew. We invited them over, I know it was Berard and maybe Martin? No, not like that, no hook-ups, just come friends. Anyway, the remaining cocktails slowly started to kick in hard, very hard.

At one point, I believe I fell asleep in the bathroom (a definite advantage of being a girl) and was woken up by someone knocking to use the toilette. Not sure how the evening ended.

Anyway – French 75, and interesting drink. It contains Gin (New Amsterdam), Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup and is topped off with Champagne. Some recipes said to add triple sec, so I added a splash of Gran Gala. It’s amazing, pretty dry, longer than most other cocktails and really refreshing.

Here is a video clip by Cocktail Spirit on how to mix a French 75, check it out:
